Mawei

Mawei is a district under administration of Fuzhou City, which is located approximately 20 kilometers southeast of Fuzhou in Fujian province. Mawei District is situated on the north bank of Min River; it was said that there was rock in the shape of a horse where the horse tail faces Mawei, thus the district was called Horsetail.

Mawei Harbor
The Mawei harbor is the cradle of China’s modern industry and the foundation of the Navy in the past. The Horsetail Shipyard is the biggest shipyard in Fujian. The Jingang Leg Scenic Area is located 10 kilometers southeast of Mawei. There are ancient bomb towers on both sides of the river where you could get a feel on the battlefield between China and France in the past.

Mawei Fuzhou Free Trade Zone (FFTZ) occupies an area of 1.8 sq km in Mawei. It was set up by the Chinese government in 1992, as an area for special investment and was granted favorable trading privileges. The Fuzhou Bonded Zone (FBZ) is also located in Mawei.

Luoxing Tower, is a lighthouse that was first built during the Song dynasty (960-1279AD) and rises 32 meters (104ft) above the district. From the top of the lighthouse there are excellent views of the Min River and the FFTZ and the FBZ. The Luoxing Tower located next to the Min River is the symbol of Min River.
