Longyan
Famous for its Hakka Round Houses
As a prefecture level city, Longyan situated in the southwestern of Fujian Province. Longyan neighboring Sanming City in the north, Quanzhou in the east, Zhangzhou in the southeast, Guangdong Province in the south, and Jiangxi Province in the west. This makes Longyan as a key gateway for Fujian trade with Guangdong and Jiangxi Province. Longyan region also known as West Fujian (Minxi).
Longyan, a major ancestral home of the Hakka, is recognized as one of the hometown of Hakka people residing around the world. The residents in Longyan's five counties are basically composed of Hakka people reaching more than 2.2 million, accounting for over 80% of the city's total population. Changting County is called the "Capital of Hakka" and Ting River the "Mother River of Hakka".
Longyan Tourist Destination
According to history, The Han were moved southward during the invasion of the northern tribe. This people were known as The Hakka People, who most of them lived in Fujian Province. Their unique culture and architecture were well known until today, especially The Hakka Round Houses (Tulou) in Yongding County. This ancient building was a kind of fortress with single entrance design.
Longkong Cavern is a limestone cave with underground river and passages. The entrance to the cave surrounded by unique rocks and trees, this makes Longkong Cavern popular for exotic cavern in southeast China.
Covered 123 square kilometers area and one of best destination spots in Fujian Province, Guanzhai Mountain located in eastern part of Liangcheng County. This scenic area has many exotic cliff and amazing panorama.
Stands in southwestern of Fujian Province, Meihua Mountain has an area of 225 square kilometers, with 89 percent covered by forest. The Meihua Mountain Nature Reserve was built in 1985 and home of thousands species of plants and hundreds of animal species, also a major habitat of the rare South China Tiger.
