Meihua Mountain
Meihua Mountain covers an area of 225.7 square kilometres, popular as ecotourism destination for its landscape, various vegetation and animals. Meihua Mountain is rated as Class-A National Nature Reserve, with forest coverage rate is 89%.
Meihua Mountain is the headstream of Minjiang River, Jiulongjiang River, and Tingjiang River, so is referred to as “the mother mountain of Fujian”. The Meihua Mountain Nature Reserve has been listed as the national forest and wild animal protection center. Various plants inside the area such as human-face bamboo, Fujian beech, yew and square bamboo. There are 55 kinds of rare animals in Meihua Mountain such as South China Tiger, clouded leopard, snow leopard, and black bear.
Meihua Mountain considered as the Town of South China Tiger, because lots of the experts from China and abroad consider it as the most ideal habitat for the South China Tiger. Since its founding on 1985, it has been attracting thousands of visitors every year. The South China Tiger is a unique Chinese species. According to statistics, the number of south china tigers is less than 100 in China, because of the destruction of the environment. Meihua Mountain Nature Reserve will be expected to be an international natural reserve for the protection of the South China tiger.
