Minyue Ancient City

Minyue Ancient City is a key national cultural protection, which is located only 1 kilometer away from Chengcun Village, in the area of Wuyishan City. Minyue Ancient City is another important evidence of Wuyishan extraordinary past. This city is a witness for the Minyue Kingdom's history, culture, economy and politics, as well as a masterpiece of architecture. As shown by the ruins, this was a capital city of Minyue Kingdom, consisting of splendid royal palaces, in addition to extensive civilian settlements around, and claiming sophisticated technology in civil engineering, construction and craftsmanship that part of the highly advance civilization Minyue people were.

According history, Minyue Kingdom (334 BC–110 BC) founder were Yue royal family who fled after the state was defeated by Chu and Qi states in 334 BC. Minyue was partially conquered by the Han Dynasty by the end of the 2nd century BCE. However its position that being closed off by mountains, made it harder for the Han people to establish a strong control over this area.

The ruins of the ancient city of Minyue Kingdom is in the shape of a rectangle, 860 meters long from south to north and 550 meters wide from east to west, with a total area of 480,000 square meters. The walls, built on the mountain, are 4-8 meters high. Three approaches in the east wall and west wall, the gates of the city are found in antiquity. Outside the city walls, there is a ditch to protect the city. Quite a lot of ruins. Imperial palaces, buildings, battalions, residential areas, places for the iron smelting and pottery and tombs excavated.
