Jiulongji Waterfalls
Jiulongji Waterfalls lying on lower reaches of Qibu River, about 14 kilometers away from Zhouning County. Count as a provincial-level scenic spot, Jiulongji covers 9.5 square kilometers , including the preserved central area is 4 km away and called the Longxi River (Dragon River).
The Jiulongji Waterfalls cascading downhill about 300 meters, in the course of 3 kilometers, leads to the formation of nine-stage wonderful deep pools. The nine-step waterfalls connected one by one, each with its own characteristics. Some have wonderful scenes, others are peaceful, what a fabulous natural scene .
The first stage of Jiulongji waterfall is the most beautiful. The waterfall is 46.7 meters high and 75 meters wide. If there is lots of water, it can reach 83 meters wide, and when it falls, its some kind of dragon playing in the water. When setting sun shine, mist magically transform into beautiful rainbow clinging shyly. The sixth waterfall to the ninth stage are interconnected , thus called the "quadruple waterfall". At the end of the nine-stage, it is a quiet pond which is long over 100 meters. The Longxi hydropower is at the end of the long pond. Rowing boats in the ponds and enjoy the wild, beautiful green scenes and natural taste of the villages.
According legend, which is popular in the local folk music, long time ago the mountain people have to get the salt in East Sea. A yonger often shoulders salt, so he was too tired and become ill. Later he took an immortal’s advice to persuade the dragon king to give him nine dragon to make the salt. But, on his way to the mountain, the nine dragons from the east sea escaped, and transform into nine waterfalls.
