Jiuli Lake
Jiuli Lake is an amazing scenery spot that has been mentioned one of the "Three Most Beautiful Scenery of Fujian" by Xu Xiake (1587-1641); the famous traveler from Ming Dynasty. As provincial-level popular scenic spot, Jiuli Lake located 31 kilometers northeast of Xianyou County, Putian City of Fujian Province.
Covering an area of 29 square kilometres, the Jiuli Lake Scenic Spot is consists of three sections: Jiuli Lake (Nine Carp Lake), Maixie Rock and Zhuoquan Rock. This scenery spot famed for its green and crystal clear lake, it is a wonderful natural lake combined with verdant tree, waterfall, water and rock. The most famous attraction is Jiuji Waterfall, along with Wuyi Mountain and Yuhua Cave are "The Three Wonder of Fujian".
Jiuji Waterfall consists of nine cascading waterfalls, with each one given a unique name. The Nine Waterfalls' name as follow :
1) Leihong (Thunder)
2) Pubu (Waterfall)
3) Zhulian Ji (Bead curtain)
4) Yuzhu (Jade pillar)
5) Shimen (Stone gate)
6) Wuxing (Five stars)
7) Feifeng (Phoenix)
8) Qipan (Chessboard)
9) Jiangjun (General)�
With overall length more than 10 kilometers, Jiuji Waterfalls rushes down along the precipitous, ramming rocks with great force, and finally all the water pours into Jiuli Lake. The longest falls reaches more than 100 meters, while the smallest one just 3-4 meters.
Jiuli Lake also known as Nine Carp Lake, the name derived from legend; at the period of Emperor of Wu in the Han Dynasty, nine brothers became immortals and rode carps from the lake and flying to heaven after they successfully made elixir of immortality.
Jiuli Lake Scenic Spot also keep numerous cultural values, such as ancient time stone-inscriptions, cultural relics, taoist temples and many others. There is also historical sites such as the Nine-Immortals Hall from the Tang Dynasty is famous tourist attractions in Fujian. Therefore, this scenic spot is of high historical value for the visitors to trace the culture of ancient China.
