Profile of Fujian University of Technology

Fujian University of Technology (FJUT; 福建工程学院) located in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province in Southeast China. Approved by the Ministry of Education, the university was established in March 2002 by merging Fujian College of Architecture and Civil Engineering and Fujian Institute of Technology. The predecessor of both institutions was the famous “Fujian Gaogong” (Fujian Advanced Technological School) originating from “Canxia Jingshe” (Canxia Elementary Technological School), which was co-founded in 1896 by Lin Shu, an eminent Fujian scholar and translator and Chen Baochen, tutor of the last Chinese emperor Fu Yi in Qing Dynasty.

FJUT Information and Facilities

FJUT currently has 14,128 full-time students. There is 8890 undergraduate students of which 5238 are collegiates. There is also an Adult students of 4788. The university has 1350 university staff. The faculty members comprise 697 of which 213 are professors and associate professors. The university has campues in Shanxi Campus, Cangshan Campus and Pudong Campus and occupies a total area of 40.5 ha (607 mu). Its new location in Fuzhou University District will occupy an area of 107 ha (1608 mu). The university is equipped with adequate facilities for teaching and learning with a total of 47 laboratories.

Fujian University of Technology has a university-wide intra-net, a computer center, a number of multi-media classrooms and language laboratories, adequate facilities for physical training and recreation. The university also runs 11 research institutes, 14 attached enterprises and 108 off-campus practice bases. In addition, Fujian Mold Design and Development Base, Fujian Experimental Centre for Electrical Vehicle, Sub-center of Advanced Manufacturing Technology of Fujian Productive Force Promotion Center as well as Fujian Teachers Training Center for Software Higher Vocational Education locate on the campuses.

Fujian University of Technology adheres to the focus of talent development with stress on fostering the creativity and practical capabilities of the students, which has uplifted the teaching quality. Over the last two years FJUT has won 65 national awards in specialty competitions, 157 provincial awards and provincial competition district awards. The number of prizes and the grade of the prizes were among the top of similar provincial universities. In the recent years FJUT graduates have enjoyed a high employment rate among similar provincial universities.
