Jiaocheng District
Jiaocheng District, where Ningde Municipal Party Committee and Ningde Municipal government are located, lies in the South of Ningde. Jiaocheng District covering an area of 1,537 km2 and 172.96 km2 seawaters. It has a population of 408,000 people and jurisdiction over 10 towns, 4 villages and 2 neighborhood offices.
Jiaocheng District used to be ruled by Ningde County, which was set up in the Late Tang Dynasty in 933 AD. And in 1998 it was promoted to a city at County Level. In September 2000 it became a district under Ningde City. Jiaocheng District has the national deep water port "Shandu Bay"and a 3000-ton - container port in the town of Zhangwan. The main aquatic products industry locates here because there are rich mountainous and marine resources. It has been the largest breeding base of aquatic products and the largest base for artificial breeding of yellow croakers in China.
Jiaocheng area also abounds in aquatic products such as Erdu Clams, razor clams, and famous fruits such as late longans, late lynches and strawberries. It always enjoys the reputation of "Tourism on Mountains and Seas", which characterizes in "the Huotong River Ecological Tour", "Shandu Bay Tour "and "She Minority Customs and Tradition Tour".
